What this data is useful for
The index is designed to answer practical pre-purchase questions: Will the chair recline without hitting the wall? Will it block a walkway? Is the user inside the published height and weight range? Can the chair or its delivery configuration pass through the narrowest doorway?
Those are compatibility questions, not quality scores. A chair with the smallest rear-clearance number is not automatically the best chair overall.
